About our services

Your questions, answered

What is Islamic counselling?

Islamic counselling is professional, evidence-based therapy offered with a genuine understanding of Islamic values and a Muslim worldview. It draws on recognised counselling approaches while being sensitive to your faith, your family structure, and your cultural context, so your emotional healing and your beliefs work together rather than against each other.

Who is Islamic Women Counselling for?

Islamic Women Counselling is for Muslim women and girls of all ages across Sydney and Australia. This includes women working through marriage or relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, parenting stress, identity questions, and general emotional wellbeing. Teen girls, university students, new mothers, and reverted (convert) Muslim women are all warmly welcome.

Is Amina Islam qualified?

Amina Islam is a qualified counsellor registered with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and works as a clinical supervisor, supporting other counselling practitioners. She specialises in counselling Muslim women and brings both professional training and a lived understanding of Islamic life to every session.

Do I need to be Muslim to access this service?

The service is designed specifically for Muslim women and girls, offering a private, modest, and faith-aware environment. Women at any point in their faith journey, including those new to Islam or those who have reverted, are warmly welcome.

What makes faith-aligned counselling different?

In mainstream counselling, some women feel they have to explain or justify their religious beliefs, or set them aside entirely. With faith-aligned counselling, your Islamic worldview is already understood and respected. Your deen is treated as a genuine source of strength and meaning, not as something to work around. This makes honest, effective counselling much more accessible.

Do you offer marriage counselling for Muslim couples?

Yes. Islamic marriage and relationship counselling is available for individual women and for couples attending together. Sessions explore communication, trust, intimacy, in-law dynamics, and the Islamic understanding of marriage as a covenant of mercy and mutual rights. Couple sessions are $200 per one-hour session. You are welcome to attend on your own if your husband is not ready to come.

Can I attend marriage counselling without my husband?

Absolutely. Many women begin counselling on their own. Working individually is often where real change starts, and meaningful progress does not require both partners to attend from the beginning.

Do you support women experiencing anxiety, depression, or trauma?

Yes. Counselling is available for anxiety, low mood, depression, and trauma, all approached in a way that is sensitive to your faith and life circumstances. Sessions are private, non-judgemental, and paced entirely by you.

Do you help with grief and loss?

Yes. Grief counselling is available for bereavement, pregnancy loss, the end of a marriage, or any significant loss. Islamic understandings of grief, sabr (patience), and trust in Allah can be woven into the work if you find that helpful.

Do you support teen girls and young women?

Yes. Counselling is available for teen girls and young Muslim women navigating identity, school and study pressure, family expectations, self-esteem, anxiety, and the challenges of growing up between two cultures.

Do you offer counselling for reverted Muslim women?

Yes. Women who have recently come to Islam and are navigating changes in identity, relationships, family acceptance, and community belonging are warmly welcome. This is a safe, understanding space with no expectation to explain your journey.

What other issues do you support?

Support is available for parenting and family conflict, anger management, self-esteem, student wellbeing, women experiencing domestic or family tension, and general emotional struggles that are difficult to name. If you are unsure whether your situation fits, please reach out and we will let you know.
